How can teachers use Social Media in the classroom as both, part of the instructional approach in teaching as well as helping students understand the online web 2.0 environment?
When using social media as part of the instructional approach, students will gain a better understanding of the online environment by simply employing the methods used in the instruction. In assessing the student work in this online environment, we need to enable programs that will track student activities and assignments to give a clear picture of the progress and creativity the student displays.
I found this great learning blog. It has some links to great assessment and learning tools. http://lunergans-inspiringthoughts.weebly.com/1/post/2013/10/-use-of-web-20-tools-for-assessments.html
When my kids were young they had things like Reading Rabbit. This was terrific something to keep them occupied and at the same time I didn't have to force them to work on it. If kids are having fun and engage in learning what a difference that can make for the child and the confidence it will build!
If we are going to incorporate these instructional advantages and have technology enter our classroom through this medium ….we need to prepare for the assessment and organization needs to be the key. So that you may concentrate on the learning, it is imperative the collection of relevant data be evaluated and recorded. Students will also be encouraged through an online class data bank where results could be posted. In my experience, I sit down once per week with the students and look at their progress or needs improvement in markbook and this goes a long way at giving them a clear snapshot of where they are at.
