HPW3C lesson

Living and Working with Children  HPW3C
According to the course curriculum ...
Students will:
• evaluate society’s expectations of and support for parents, caregivers, and people who work with children;
– identify the roles played by various social agencies that are in place to support parents, families, caregivers, and those involved with organizations that focus on children (e.g., Children’s Aid,YMCA/ YWCA, Big Brothers/Sisters).

In my lesson….
An open class discussion on the many organizations that involve children.  Students will share their experiences since many are parents, grandparents or older siblings of young children. The group will gather a list of organizations in their community related to this topic.

The class will create an Oral FIVE together based on preceding discussion.

F = fact
I = interesting question (what if, what about)
V = voice your opinion
E = your experience

Students will choose an agency or organization that is involved with children in their  community from a list created while brainstorming with the class.

They will complete a FIVE of their chosen organization by researching the internet and reporting it in a Google Document complete with a link to their blog.

The students will collaborate by sharing their FIVE in the community forum and responding to each others work.

F = Facts =  knowledge & understanding
I = Interesting questions = thinking & inquiry
V = Voice opinion = communication
E= Experience = application

*I believe there are many ways to share and collaborate out there what other sites may work better here for collaboration? Help me discover other ways that students can incorporate collaborative learning in this lesson by suggesting sites you feel would be engaging.
