Are You Up To Standard?

These standards of practice reflect the commitment we have to our students.  We are bound to these standards, both morally and ethically because we made the choice to become teachers.

How many teachers revisit these standards and are reminded of that commitment?

In some schools I have visited, I am very sad to say that these standards should be posted in the staff room to remind some teachers that their students are relying on them.  It is so important to model a love of lifelong learning and what better way to do that, then to keep up with your own education to give them every advantage.  New methods and theories give us ideas that may work in our classroom, but the internet is here to stay.  We cannot keep working with students  in the same way and if we don’t invest in this pathway, we will be the ones left behind.  It has become a new world and it requires innovative thinkers having the pulse on the latest technology.  My own grandchildren at two years of age, know the little rectangle holds interesting lights and buttons that change the lights.  They become so focused because of the interaction and reaction to their input.  That is the kind of focus we need to keep these standards alive in the digital world.

If we don’t plug into this kind of learning are we living up to those standards?
