When teaching a class in social science I would often leave Friday’s open for a movie that illustrates what we have been discussing or introduces the next issue for discussion. My principal suggested that I use clips instead so I have been looking for a site that gives me short video clips on a specific topics. I found JISC media hub. You can go on the site and browse for different topics and sort through all that they list before you actually sign up. Once you find something you would like to use, you can then sign in and access the resource.
I really love the TeacherTube because the MindMuzic videos are very much in tune with many students in my class. They are into slam poetry and rap type rants that illustrate injustice or issues relevant to today, which is very relevant to social science. I encourage them to use their own voice and speak out when they are witness to injustice in the world or their own neighborhood. Several of my students create their own rant or poetry to bring to light these issues that need our attention.
